Bob in his 'United We Stand' T-shirt eager to enter TWN.

Located in a one and a half story nondescript commercial building in a mixed-use commercial area of West Springfield we were greeted by a very colorful entranceway mural, contemporary rock music, and a big smile from bartender, Kathleen, who warmly welcomed us and made us feel at home right away. There's a long bar in the taproom which also features plenty of seating at tables, a shuffleboard, a kitchen with an ordering window, local artwork, and bright, clean, and modern restroom facilities. To the south a doorway leads to an enclosed patio area with plenty of outdoor umbrellaed seating. On this particular day there were a few couples enjoying themselves, but it surely wasn't crowded.

From their website -

Our story began with a home beer brewing kit gifted by his wife on Christmas morning to Head Brewer Mark Avery. After years of developing both his love for the craft and his recipes, he entered several beer competitions and began to build his confidence and recipe list. It was not long after their Worthy Brewfest win that plans began to come together to make this dream a reality.

Mark coined the name of the company based off his wish of one day quitting his desk job to pursue his dream of owning and operating his own brewery. It was not long until Mark was absolutely determined to become a true contributor in the craft beer community he loved.

After a few stumbles, Mark Avery welcomed Derek Upson as his partner and the two began searching for the new home of Two Weeks Notice. Coincidentally, Derek is Mark’s boss at that job he’s been longing to quit so badly, so it’s safe to say they’ve worked well together before. No hard feelings Derek. Derek supported Mark’s passion as he grew a small family owned company to a large and successful industry leader. With their partnership solidified, Two Weeks Notice began to move forward. Since that time, Derek has moved on to new endeavors and we were joined in July of 2021 by brothers Nate and Darren Lecrenski.

Mark’s beers will be sometimes creative, sometimes classic but always made with same passion that started his career. We want this beer to be memorable, unique and consistently delicious with a style for every taste. The best way to do good work is to love the work you do.

There will be laughs, jokes and stories along the way and we hope to add to an already fantastic community here in Western Massachusetts.

Thanks for drinking and welcome to our journey!

Kathleen, who graciously allowed Lisa to take her picture, answered our questions about the beers that were on tap.

We made our selections from this menu board after Kathleen answered our questions.

Lisa selected a Zest Friend - New England IPA for her first refreshment and later it was followed by the IPS - Session. Over the course of the afternoon, Kelley consumed two glasses of West Side Big Slide. I started with a Casual Friday, followed by a West Side.

Additional information on the brews we selected. -

West Side Big Slide

7.3% IPA brewed with Vic Secret, Citra and Motueka. This beer is bursting with passion fruit, pine and ripe melon. We named this beer in honor of our new home in West Springfield.

Casual Friday

5.4% Pale Ale. Casual Friday is hopped with Citra and Hallertau Blanc. Think tropical, white wine, grape must, citrusy melon. A serious crusher with almost no bitterness.

Fake Saturday

4.3% Session IPA. Bright, refreshing and delightfully drinkable. Pretend tomorrow isn’t Monday. Every day can be a Fake Saturday. This beer was born on long Sunday brew days that turned into late nights with friends around the fire, all of us ignoring the fact that we had work the next day. Murph lovingly declared any brew day with responsibilities the next day a Fake Saturday.

The in-house Fresheez Kitchen was open and from their varied menu we had their loaded nachos with chicken and green meat sauce. The tacos were chipotle and chicken.

We started outdoors on the patio, but around 5 p.m. a light mist began to descend on us so we moved the party inside. We finished our food and beverages shortly before 6 (closing time on Sunday) and headed back north. We all agreed that the beer was as good as any we've had so far, and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

We forgot to take a 'cheers' photo, so here is an old standard photo from Brew Practitioners when they were located in Florence, MA. -
